For a long time, European philosophers and scientists believed that the Earth was at the center of the universe and that everything, Including the sun, Revolved around it. From the time of Ptolemy in the 2nd century BCE, this geocentric view was widely accepted in the West as a scientific truth. In 1512, Nicolaus Copernicus, in his heliocentric model of planetary motion, argued that the sun is stationary in the center of the solar system and does not revolve.
In 1609, the German scientist Johannes Kepler published his book *Astronomia Nova*. In this book, He concluded that not only do planets revolve in elliptical orbits around the sun, but they also rotate on their axes at varying speeds. This knowledge enabled European scientists to correctly explain the alternation of day and night, along with many other processes in the solar system.
Despite these discoveries,It was still believed that the sun was stationary and did not rotate on its own axis,Unlike the Earth. I remember learning this incorrect idea in geography books when I was in school…
Let’s focus on the following verse:
**وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ كُلٌّ فِي فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ**
*”It is He who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon; each floating in an orbit.”* –(Al-Anbiya: 33)–
The Arabic word used here is *يَسْبَحُونَ (yasbahoon)*.This word comes from *سَبَحَ (sabah)*, Which refers to motion. When used for a person on the ground, it does not mean rolling, but rather walking or running. When referring to a person in water, it does not mean floating, but swimming…
Similarly, if the word *yasbah* is used for a celestial object like the sun, it not only refers to it moving through space but also implies that it is rotating as it travels through space.
Many school curricula now include the fact that the sun revolves in its orbit. The sun’s rotation can be demonstrated using a device that projects an image of the sun onto a table. Anyone with sound judgment can verify this. Notably, the sun has a fixed region that rotates in a circle every 25 days. This means it takes about 25 days for the sun to complete one rotation around its axis…
The sun travels through space at a speed of about 240 km/s and takes about 200 million years to complete one full orbit around the center of our galaxy….
*”The sun cannot overtake the moon, nor can the night precede the day. Each floats in an orbit.”–(Yasin: 40)–
This verse points to several key astronomical facts that modern science has only recently discovered,Such as the existence of distinct orbits for the sun and the moon and their individual movements through space…
Modern astronomy confirms that the sun is heading toward a specific destination in the galaxy, a point known as the Solar Apex. This is a well-established fact. The solar system is moving toward a specific point in the direction of the constellation Hercules.
The moon completes its orbit around the Earth in the same amount of time that it takes for the Earth to rotate once on its axis. The moon takes about 29.5 days to complete one full cycle…
One cannot help but marvel at the scientific accuracy of the Qur’anic verses. Should we not ask ourselves the question, “What is the source of the Qur’an’s knowledge?”
The sun will eventually lose its light.
The sun’s light is the result of chemical reactions on its surface that have been ongoing for the past five billion years. However,In the future, there will come a time when the sun will die out, leading to the extinction of all life on Earth.Regarding the impermanence of the sun, the Qur’an says:….
**وَالشَّمْسُ تَجْرِي لِمُسْتَقَرٍ لَّهَا ذَٰلِكَ تَقدِيرُ العَزِيزِ العَلِيمِ**
**”And the sun runs its course toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Almighty, the All-Knowing.”* (Yasin: 38)
The Arabic word used here is *مُستَقَر (mustaqarr)*, meaning “a fixed place” or “a determined time.” Thus, the Qur’an indicates that the sun is heading toward a specific destination that it will continue to follow for a predetermined time, after which its energy will be exhausted or it will cease to shine.
